Those interested in the history of the region of eastern Croatia might want to learn more about Vučedol culture. This culture gets its name from the town of Vukovar which is at the center of its influence. There are many aspects of Vučedol culture which warrant study, but perhaps one of the most well known is the ceramic piece called the Vučedol dove. This ceramic pot is the depiction a dove, and it has come to be be the symbol of the town of Vukovar where it was found. Replicas of the dove have been crafted and found there way into modern Croatian homes between 1991 and 1995 during the struggle for independence. There the bird served as a symbol of a hope for peace in the war-torn nation of Croatia.
